Abide Gathering 2024

“At Abide, I felt seen, heard, connected, embodied, embraced, and whole. I felt a deep, deep sense of belonging. I didn't have to explain the context of my lived experience—people just knew, and that made me feel like I could rest easy. I felt connected to God in the most authentic version of myself, something I've never experienced anywhere else or in any other community. To be able to worship God out of a sense of wholeness was liberating. Abide gives me hope for the Asian American faith community. Abide is life-giving. Abide is necessary. Abide is healing.”

  • Where and when we met: We met from June 30-July 3, 2024 at The Henry Hotel in Dearborn, Michigan. Dearborn is the home of Ford Motor Company and is just outside of Detroit. We have begun to make this place our home and feel especially welcomed by this place. We have also begun to settle on July as the month to meet, as the entire country is on school holiday.

  • Who was there: This year’s gathering was our largest ever, with 81 attendees (38 of these were first timers) coming from 14 states and Canada, representing various ethnic and vocational backgrounds. We also had 26 children and youth participate in a day camp based out of the hotel!

  • What we learned: Why storytelling is sacred, the importance of finding our identity apart from our performance, the extraordinary connections between generational trauma and our experiences in the church, the easy yoke of being attuned to God, the second mountain journey of surrender, and more. We intentionally do not record Abide sessions in order to encourage open sharing from speakers and attendees. However, we are exploring ways to learn together and from one another outside of the annual gatherings.

  • What we experienced: Multicultural and soulful worship led by Aisea Taimani. Deep connection and conversation through sharing our stories. Embodied abiding practices, including Christian yoga, visio divina, and prayer walking. Fun fellowship through pickleball, a food tour, viewing art, an impromptu late night talent show, and more!

“Abide was a remarkable, rare, transformative, curated, deeply connected experience that the soul hungers and longs for.”
